-2010 Hiking Highlights and Photos-
It has been a busy year filled with new and old peaks and places. I was fortunate to visit the Sierra 3 times (although the first time was at the expense of a transmission). I climbed the Baldy bowl for the first time. I also visited many new places throughout southern California. The focus for 2011 will be the Desert Divide and San Jacinto mountains area. I also hope to hike the remainder of the San Diego county HPS peaks I have not yet hiked.

Misc, Weather
-Weather Update, Lunar Eclipse, Etc.-
The NWS is forecasting a series of storms moving through California over the next week. In the Sierra they have posted a winter storm warning for areas above 7000 feet. They are forecasting between 5 and 10 feet of snow could fall over the next week. In southern California the snow level is expected to remain above 9000 feet. This means only a few areas will see any snow fall and any snow which remains below this level will likely melt.

-Mt. Baldy(5)-
Elevation: 10,064 ft.
Date Hiked: 11-27-2010
Trip Report:
The first big storm of the season hit last week and I wanted to see the snow. I was going to hike San Gorgonio but got back to late from my hike yesterday. I decided to hike Mt. Baldy with my friend Nate. I knew Baldy had snow and could be hiked easily in a day. -

-Blue Angels Peak, Valley of the Moon-
Imperial County HP
Elevation: 4,548 ft.
Date Hiked: 11-26-2010
Trip Report:
Blue Angels Peak is the Imperial County High Point, located just north of the Mexican border and just east of the San Diego county border. This peak is also located next to one of the best bouldering areas near San Diego, Valley of the Moon. We decided to park in the Valley of the Moon and Hike to the peak. This way we could also explore the valley when we got back. -

SDC #26
Elevation: 2,240 ft.
Date Hiked: 11-13-2010
Trip Report:
Indian Hill is the site of an early Indian settlement in eastern San Diego county. It is also near an old railroad camp. There are remains of both settlements along a 6.4 mile loop. This loop also passes the Carrizo palm grove, which is one of the densest palm groves in Anza Borrego. -

Elevation: 3,675 ft.
Date Hiked: 11-6-2010
Trip Report:
El Cajon mountain looms over the city of El Cajon in San Diego county. Although many people see this mountain, fewer people know what it is and even fewer hike to the summit. Today my friend Eric and I hiked to the summit via the south arete route. This route was steep, loose but fun. -

Date Hiked: 10-21-2010
Trip Report:
I took the day off work to see to if there was any snow up in the high country. It was an interesting day on the mountain with mostly clouds and rain. The views did open up over the Bowl on the way down which was nice. There were only small patches of snow above 9500 feet. I was expecting more but I guess the recent storm was not cold enough. I have posted a few pictures for anyone interested. -

-Martinez Mountain-

HPS: #18Elevation: 6,560 ft.
Date Hiked: 10-10-2010
Trip Report:
Martinez Mountain is in the Santa Rosa wilderness in the desert of southern California. It is a difficult mountain to get to requiring a long approach. The most recent entry in the summit register was over a month and a half ago. For southern California mountains this is a long time. The plan was to bag both Martinez Mountain and Sheep Mountain with Mark, Florian, Lee and Paul from the meetup.com SoCal Hikers and Peak-baggers group. -
Weather
-More Thunderstorms Over San Diego-
There have been thunderstorms throughout San Diego county today and the HPWREN cams have great views of the weather. Most of the action has been throughout Anza Borrego but there have been a few storms in the western portion of the county. The National Weather Service has also posted a Red Flag Warning due to the frequent lightning. This lightning could start fires in less developed areas.
